We woke up Sunday morning and had just started doing chores when we noticed a Buncombe Co. sheriffs vehicle blocking traffic in front of our driveway. At first we thought it was a license checkpoint but soon realized that he was redirecting traffic on account of some movers.
Do you remember the story of 'The Little House' by Virginia Lee Burton? It's the story of a house that is built in the country but becomes eventually engulfed in urban sprawl until the Great Grand daughter of the man who built the house recognizes and rescues it, putting it on a flat bed and driving it out of the city to a grassy hill with apple trees where the little house could once again see the sky and watch the seasons. I swear I never can get through reading that one aloud without tearing up, but then I'm a carpenter's daughter and I appreciate workmanship.
At any rate, Sunday morning we saw a version of the little house get hung up on a limb on Louisiana Avenue before eventually being cut loose and finishing it's slow progress up to it's new foundations on Adams Mill Road.
Best of luck Little House and it's owners, you certainly put in the effort!
