Oasis Shriner's Circus

On Monday afternoon I took the girls to the Shriner's Circus at the WNC Ag Center, a one day only, two show stop for this traditional three ring circus.  I'll be honest I really didn't know what to expect. I grew up in the DC area and while I knew of Shriner's and their charitable contributions, hospitals, etc. I didn't know much beyond seeing them in the little cars in parades.  For all I knew this was what we'd see.

The last time we went to a circus they were too young and don't really remember it well. (My personal recollection was that of two small children and a sugar fueled dog and pony show disaster under a tent.)  Now that they're both double digits we have a small threshold before teenage cynicism wins out.   I've gotta say the girls had a blast!  It had elephants, tigers, acrobats, aerialists, jugglers, motorcycles, clowns, the works.

For me, the people watching is always the best reward.  It's interesting to watch the performers dynamic as they switch roles and costumes through out the show.  First as the snow cone sellers or face painters then showing up in the ring as the jugglers, acrobats and aerialists.  You've got to wear a lot of different hats for the show to go on.
