Got a great surprise last Wednesday night when I got called in to the Peel to cover the Budos Band along with Charles Bradley and His Extraordinaires (which, it turns out, is also the Budos Band in a slightly different configuration). Mr. Bradley is a soul, funk, R&B singer of epic proportions, "The Screaming Eagle of Soul" this man brings the show complete with mid set wardrobe changes. If you're too young to have seen James Brown perform live this is as close as you may ever be to what that was like, a Go-Go Tent Revival.

The Budos Band is a fun, funky, BIG, instrumental Afro-Soul band with 9-11 members hailing from New York. I was blown away by the great turn out this band got from Asheville on a Tuesday night. Then again, this band is a lot of fun to move to! I definitely had to balance holding still for pictures with dancing during this show, but that's what makes my job so great! Love the liberal use of Bari-sax, horns and bongos working in this band, and the bass player who stalks the stage with his instrument held out at arms length in front of him yet never misses a beat.
You can see more photos from the night at the Orange Peel's Facebook Page.
