I had the good fortune to break down right in front of Barber's Orchard & Fruit Stand in Waynesville. They've been selling apples, and apple baked goods there since 1932. We got a flat tire on the highway and fell right in. The smell of baking pies and apple turnovers when you walk in the door is like heaven! If you're ever out in Waynesville definitely stop in and pick up a pastry and a sack of apples or even a blue hubbard squash.
